Supplications During Prayer
Supplication of Istikhara Prayer:
From Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah Almighty be pleased with them both) it is narrated that he said: The Messenger of Allah Almighty (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) used to teach us the way of performing Istikhara (seeking guidance from Allah Almighty) in all matters, just as he used to teach us a chapter from the Quran. He (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) said: When one of you is concerned about a matter, he should pray two rak‘ahs of non-obligatory prayer, then say:
The narrator said: then he should mention his need.
“O Allah Almighty! I seek guidance from You by Your knowledge, and I seek ability from You by Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. For You are able while I am not able, You know while I do not know, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah Almighty! If You know that this matter — and he should name his need — is good for me in my religion, my worldly life, and the end of my affair — or he said: in my present and future — then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my worldly life, and the end of my affair — or he said: in my present and future — then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, then make me pleased with it.”
Supplication of Funeral Prayer:
“O Allah Almighty, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah Almighty, whomever You keep alive among us, keep him alive upon Islam, and whomever You take in death from among us, take him in death upon faith. O Allah Almighty, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not let us go astray after him.”
