Hadith of the Messenger of Allah Almighty ﷺ
Hadith about the life of this world
Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah Almighty be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) took hold of my shoulder and said: “Live in this world as if you are a stranger or a traveler.” Ibn Umar (may Allah Almighty be pleased with them both) used to say: “When you reach the evening, do not expect to live till the morning; and when you reach the morning, do not expect to live till the evening. Take advantage of your health before illness and your life before death.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
Words that soften the heart
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him) that the Prophet (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) said: “Allah Almighty has left no excuse for anyone whom He has allowed to live until the age of sixty years.”
(Reported by al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 6419)
Hadith about protective jealousy (Ghayrah)
Narrated by Al-Mughira ibn Shu‘bah (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him): Sa‘d ibn ‘Ubada (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him) said, “If I saw a man with my wife, I would strike him with the sword without mercy.” When the Messenger of Allah Almighty (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) was informed of this, he said: “Are you amazed at the jealousy of Sa‘d? By Allah Almighty, I am more jealous than he is, and Allah Almighty is more jealous than I am. Because of Allah Almighty’s jealousy, He has made unlawful all immorality, whether apparent or hidden. And there is no one to whom excuses are dearer than Allah Almighty, and for this reason, He sent the bearers of glad tidings and warners. And there is no one to whom praise is dearer than Allah Almighty, and for this reason, Allah Almighty has promised Paradise.”
(Reported by al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 7416)
Warning against abandoning Jumu‘ah prayer
Narrated by Abu al-Ja‘d al-Dumari (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him) — he was one of the Companions — that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) said: “Whoever neglects three Friday prayers out of heedlessness, Allah Almighty will seal his heart.”
(Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith No. 1052)
Worthlessness of the worldly life
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) once passed through the marketplace, and the people were on both sides of him. He saw a dead goat with small ears, took hold of it by its ear, and said: “Who among you would like to have this for one dirham?” They said: “We would not want it even for free; what use would it be to us?” Then he said: “Would you like to have it for yourselves?” They said: “By Allah Almighty, if it were alive, it would still be defective (and worthless); how much more now that it is dead!” The Messenger of Allah Almighty (may Allah Almighty bless him and give him peace) then said: “By Allah Almighty, the world is more insignificant to Allah Almighty than this dead goat is to you.”
